Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB are collaborating with organisations from both the sight loss and wider charity sector as well as corporate organisations to create new opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to find employment through the Get Set Progress (GSP) Internship programme. As part of your 9-month internship, you will be part of a large cohort of fellow interns and gain the following:

Job description

Role: Trainee Creative Workshop Leader

Department: Creative Learning Team

Reporting to: Alex Rees

Location: Hybrid / Cardiff, Wales 

Salary: Based on the Real Living Wage 

Contract type: Fixed term, 9-months, part-time: 21 hours a week

 

Job Specification Information

Overview of the role:

To assist in creative workshops, including drama, music and sound technology sessions and to promote UCAN activities to children, families and the wider community. UCAN is based at Cardiff University School of Optometry and Vision Sciences; however, UCAN runs workshops throughout Wales, so this post will involve working at other locations, including schools and other sight loss organisations, and on occasion, remotely via Zoom.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Promoting UCAN's activities to potential participants, families, and other organisations

  • Assisting with checking participants' consent forms

  • Using lived experience to contribute to risk assessments

  • Liaising with participants and families regarding travel arrangements

  • Assist with meeting and greeting participants

  • Assist in the delivery of creative activities, to deliver independently at the end of the internship.

 

Person specification - Essential criteria

This post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010

  • An understanding of the disability arts community and sight loss sector in Wales

  • A proven interest in the creative arts

  • Good Communication skills, proficient in Word, Excel, Google Docs and Zoom.

  • Willingness to travel to the TPT Hub in London for intern development events throughout the course of the internship programme (costs covered by TPT).

  • Having not previously undertaken the Get Set Progress internship programme.
