Cardiff University of Optometry and Vision Sciences has hosted UCAN Productions office and workshop space since 2010.
In 2012 Jane Latham Co-founder and Development Director became an Honorary Associate of Cardiff University.
The generous support of the University has allowed UCAN to grow into a strong peer led organisation. UCAN members have gone on to successfully deliver demonstration lectures on the subject of The Impact of Blindness and also delivered training as part of the Ophthalmology Module for all fourth year junior doctors at Cardiff University Hospital of Wales.
Sight Life (formerly Cardiff Institute for the Blind)
Sight Life and UCAN have much in common and enjoy a great working partnership.
As two membership-led organisations, we find that by sharing resources, working together and promoting each others’ activities, we can make a real difference to the lives of vision impaired children, young people and adults in Wales.
UCAN Productions and Wales Council for the Blind (WCB) have worked closely together for many years.
Projects include Ein Llis Ein Storm, http://www.stormwcb.org.uk/about/ - a partnership as part of a 3 year Sustainable Social Services Grant which worked specifically around the needs of vision impaired young adults.
Also UCAN develops an annual performance for the Welsh Assembly Government Eye Care Conference.
UCAN is extremely grateful to the Wales Millennium Centre for their continued support of our annual UCAN Perform festival.
We recently developed a relationship with global audio technology manufacturer Focusrite, who have a growing interest in accessibility in music technology, and donated some high quality and extremely useful recording equipment to UCAN. We strongly agree that there is room for improvement in widening technology access for VI musicians.
