Since 2022, UCAN Productions has been an Arts Award Champion Centre for blind and partially sighted children and young people in Wales. This means that while continuing to deliver our regular creative activities, we can now help our children and young people to gain recognised accredited qualifications.

Trinity College London is the only awarding body for the Arts Award, and in recognition of our Arts Award Pilot Project, we were very proud to be awarded Trinity College London Champion Centre status, which makes UCAN the only organisation of its kind in the UK.

Delivering 21st century skills

Arts Award is a range of unique qualifications that supports anyone aged up to 25 to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world through taking challenges in an art form - from drama to digital art, pottery to poetry.

Through progressing through the five levels, children and young people get to:

  • discover the enjoyment of creating and participating in arts activities

  • experience arts events

  • develop creative and communication skills that are essential for success in 21st century life

  • explore the work of artists and craftspeople and gain insights into the professional arts world

  • gain experience and knowledge to help progress into further education and employment

There are no entry requirements, no time limit for completing the award, and no set rules on how to present final work.

Over half a million awards have been achieved across five levels — Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold — since Arts Award launched in 2005.
